Tato norma platí pro magnetická jádra z magneticky měkkých materiálů, používaná v induktorech, transformátorech a v součástkách pro potlačení elektromagnetické interference. Poskytuje návod pro specifikaci měřicích metod magnetických vlastností a rovněž nemagnetických vlastností, jako jsou např. mechanické vlastnosti. Norma vymezuje všeobecné principy, které je nutno dodržet u různých možných zkušebních metod. V normě je rovněž popsána metoda magnetického kondicionování jader před jejich měřením.
