Tento vysílač-přijímač je určen pro použití s duplexními optickými konektory SC a k montáži na desku s plošnými spoji s prokovenými otvory. Cílem této normy je vytvořit předpoklady pro záměnnost optických vysílačů-přijímačů na úrovni fyzického rozhraní dodávaných různými výrobci.
