Tato část IEC 62485 platí pro akumulátorové baterie a bateriové instalace používané pro elektrická vozidla např. v elektrických průmyslových nákladních vozidlech (včetně zdvihacích vozíků, tahacích vozíků, čistících strojů, automaticky naváděných vozidel), v lokomotivách napájených z baterií, v elektrických vozidlech (např. vozidla pro přepravu zboží, golfové vozíky, jízdní kola, invalidní vozíky) a netýká se návrhu takových vozidel. Tato mezinárodní norma se vztahuje na akumulátorové baterie oxid olovičitý-olovo, oxid nikelnatý-kadmium, oxid nikelnatý-metalhydrid a na jiné alkalické akumulátorové baterie.
