Tato norma platí pro všechny elektronické systémy pro byty a budovy (HBES) a automatizační a řídicí systémy budov (BACS) a specifikuje obecné požadavky na tyto systémy a výrobky. Tento dokument je použitelný (nejen) pro - stanice obsluhy a jiná zařízení tvořící rozhraní mezi člověkem a systémem, - zařízení pro funkce managementu, - řídicí zařízení, automatizační stanice a řídicí jednotky konkrétně určené pro určitou aplikaci, - terénní zařízení a jejich rozhraní, a - kabeláž a propojení zařízení používané ve vyhrazené síti HBES/BACS.
