Norma platí pro trojfázové synchronní stroje o jmenovitém výkonu 1 kVA a vyšším. Většina metod je určena k použití pro stroje s budicím vinutím napájeným pomocí sběracích kroužků a kartáčů. Při některých zkouškách synchronních strojů s bezkartáčovým buzením je nutné vynaložit zvláštní úsilí.
