Tato norma, s funkčními a bezpečnostními aspekty, se vztahuje na elektromechanické elementární relé (dvoustavová relé s nespecifikovanou dobou zpoždění) s požadavky na vysokou schopnost jako jsou funkce přerušení nebo zkratu zařízení a pro zakomponování nízkonapěťových zařízení. Tato relé mohou mít specifickou konstrukci k zhášení elektrického oblouku mezi kontakty (magnetickým vyfukováním), nebo použitím koordinace izolace, která není pokryta normou IEC 61810-1 (například plynem plněné kontaktní komory), nebo vyžadují posouzení bezpečnosti, na které se nevztahuje norma IEC 61810-1 (například pro vyšší zátěže)
