Tento dokument specifikuje metodu stanovení exponentu deformačního zpevnění n tahem u plochých výrobků (plechy a pásy) vyrobených z kovových materiálů.
Metoda platí pouze pro spojitou a monotónní část křivky napětí-deformace v plastické oblasti (viz 8.4).
V případě materiálů s kmitajícím průběhem napěťově deformační křivky v oblasti deformačního zpevnění (materiály vykazující Portevinův-Le Chatelierův jev, např. slitiny AlMg) se za účelem získání reprodukovatelných výsledků doporučuje automatické stanovení (lineární regrese závislosti logaritmu skutečného napětí na logaritmu skutečné plastické deformace, viz 8.7)
