Norma stanoví metodu pro zjišťování množství volného formaldehydu a částečně extrahovaného formaldehydu hydrolýzou metodou extrakce vodou. Metodu lze použít pro zkoušení textilií v jakékoli formě. Tento postup je určen pro stanovení volného a hydrolyzovatelného formaldehydu obsaženého v textiliích v rozsahu od 16 mg/kg až do 3 500 mg/kg, pokud se provádí podle této metody. Spodní hranice je 16 mg/kg. Pod touto hranicí se výsledek uvede jako "nezjistitelný". Metoda pro zjišťování odštěpitelného formaldehydu je uvedena v ČSN EN ISO 14184-2
