Tato mezinárodní norma stanoví zásady pro odvozování rozměrů z antropometrických měření a jejich aplikace v uspořádání pracovních míst u stacionárních strojních zařízení. Je založena na současných ergonomických poznatcích a antropometrických měřeních. Specifikuje prostorové požadavky pro obsluhu zařízení při běžném provozu a pro polohy vsedě a vstoje. Tato mezinárodní norma byla zpracována jako harmonizovaná norma ve smyslu Směrnice pro strojní zařízení a přidružených předpisů ESVO.
