Tato část ISO 16558-1 specifikuje metodu kvantitativního stanovení obsahu celkových extrahovatelných těkavých, těkavých alifatických a aromatických frakcí ropných uhlovodíků ve vlhkých půdních vzorcích odebraných v terénu plynovou chromatografií s hmotnostně spektrometrickou detekcí. Aromatické frakce jsou stanoveny jako suma jednotlivých aromatických látek. Součet těkavých alifatických (C5 až C10) a aromatických (C6 až C10) frakcí se může označovat jako "těkavé oleje". Výsledky této zkoušky se mohou používat pro studie hodnocení rizik, které se týkají kontaminace půd ropnými uhlovodíky
