Tato mezinárodní norma určuje všeobecné zásady vyžadované pro detekci úniků metodou akustické emise (AT). Norma je určena pro aplikaci metodiky na konstrukce a komponenty, ve kterých se v důsledku rozdílných tlaků objevují úniky a generují akustickou emisi (AE). Je zde popsán jev generování (vzniku) AE a vliv charakteru tekutiny, tvaru štěrbiny (otvoru, trhliny, průrvy), šíření vln a okolního prostředí.
