Tento dokument popisuje techniky používané pro zjišťování netěsnosti pomocí stopového plynu a detektoru netěsnosti pro zvolený stopový plyn.

Rozdíl parciálního tlaku stopového plynu je vytvořen na opačných stranách stěny zkoušeného objektu. Stopový plyn, který pronikl netěsností, je detekován na základě svých fyzikálních nebo chemických vlastností. Chemická detekce je obecně založena na reakcích, které způsobují místní změnu barvy (povrch objektu proto musí být viditelný).
