Tato mezinárodní norma poskytuje obecný návod pro průkaz a identifikaci specifického mikroorganismu Escherichia coli v kosmetických přípravcích. Mikroorganismy považované touto mezinárodní normou za specifické mohou být v jednotlivých zemích odlišné podle národních zvyklostí nebo pravidel. Metoda popsaná v této mezinárodní normě je založena na průkazu růstu mikroorganismů v neselektivním tekutém médiu (pomnožovací půdě) vhodném pro detekci mikrobiální kontaminace, následovaném izolací mikroorganismů na neselektivní agarová media.
