Norma obsahuje ISO 2179:1986. Stanoví požadavky na elektrolyticky vyloučené povlaky intermetalické sloučeniny SnNi o přibližném hmotnostním složení 65 % cínu a 35 % niklu. Norma neplatí pro: Závitové součásti; povlaky na polotovarech jako plechu, pásu nebo drátu, nebo pro výrobky zhotovené z těchto polotovarů; povlaky na vinutých pružinách; elektrolytické pokovování ocelí s pevností v tahu vyšší než 1 000 MPa (nebo odpovídající tvrdostí), neboť tyto oceli jsou náchylné k vodíkové křehkosti.
