Tato mezinárodní norma je použitelná pro papíry s pevností v průtlaku v rozmezí 70 kPa až 1 400 kPa. Pro materiály s pevností v průtlaku rovnou nebo vyšší než 350 kPa (nebo 250 kPa pro složky kombinovaných materiálů) je v ISO 2759[1] uvedena alternativní metoda založená na podobných principech. Všechny složky hladké a vlnité lepenky, bez ohledu na pevnost v průtlaku, se zkouší podle ISO 2759. Vzhledem k přesahu mezi metodou pro zkoušení papírů a lepenek, a při neexistenci obchodních dohod se materiály s pevností v průtlaku pod 600 kPa zkoušejí podle této normy
