Tento dokument specifikuje horizontální metodu průkazu bakterií rodu Salmonella. Platí pro: - výrobky určené k lidské spotřebě a ke krmení zvířat; - vzorky z prostředí oblasti potravinářské produkce a manipulace; - vzorky z prvovýroby, jako jsou zvířecích trus, prach a stěry. Tato horizontální metoda je určena k průkazu většiny sérovarů bakterií rodu Salmonella. Pro průkaz některých specifických sérovarů mohou být potřebné další kultivační kroky. Pro bakterie Salmonella Typhi a Salmonella Paratyphi je postup popsán v příloze D. Selektivní pomnožovací půda, modifikovaný polotuhý agar podle Rappaporta a Vassiliadise (MSRV), je zamýšlen k průkazu pohyblivých kmenů bakterií rodu Salmonella a není vhodný k průkazu nepohyblivých kmenů bakterií rodu Salmonella
