V1.2.1 Tato norma stanovuje minimální požadavky na úzkopásmový přímotisknoucí (NBDP) námořní přijímač pracující v systému NAVTEX. Je určena k pokrytí ustanovení článku 3.3 (e) Směrnice 1999/5/EC (Směrnice R&TTE), který stanoví, že rádiová zařízení v rozsahu platnosti této normy musí být konstruována tak, aby "...podporovala určité vlastnosti zajišťující přístup k tísňovým službám". Navíc k této normě budou platit pro zařízení v rozsahu platnosti této normy i jiné EN, které specifikují technické požadavky v souvislosti se základními požadavky podle jiných částí článku 3 Směrnice R&TTE.
