Tato mezinárodní norma uvádí metodu úpravy půdních vzorků určených k fyzikálně-chemickým rozborům stabilních a netěkavých ukazatelů a popisuje následujících pět kroků úpravy vzorků: sušení, mělnění, prosévání, dělení vzorků a mletí. Postupy uvedené v této normě je možno použít jen tehdy, neovlivní-li výsledky požadovaných rozborů. Tato mezinárodní norma také není použitelná pro vzorky, u nichž se stanovují těkavé látky. Mezinárodní normy pro analytické metody většinou uvádějí, kdy je nutné přijmout jiné postupy
