V této části ISO 12678 jsou popsány nástroje a uvedeny jednoduché metody pro rutinní měření poškození rohů a hran a jiných povrchových vad žárovzdorných tvarových výrobků. Nepoužívá se na měření vnitřních vad. Norma neurčuje kritéria pro převzetí nebo odmítnutí výrobků. Pokud není dohodnuto jinak, je použití těchto metod omezeno na normalizované tvary podle ISO 5019-1 až ISO 5019-6 a na ISO 5417.
