Tato část ISO 13379 poskytuje pokyny pro interpretaci dat a diagnostiku strojů. Záměrem je: 1. umožnit uživatelům a výrobcům systémů pro monitorování a diagnostiku sdílet společné koncepty v oblasti diagnostiky strojů; 2. umožnit uživatelům přípravu nezbytných technických charakteristik, které se budou používat pro pozdější diagnózu stavu stroje; 3. poskytnout odpovídající přístup ke stanovení diagnózy závad strojů. Protože to jsou obecné pokyny, není uveden seznam typů strojů, kterých se týká.
