Tato norma není použitelná pro zkoušení nestabilních chemických látek ve vodě, pokud není měřena expoziční koncentrace, ani pro zkoušení vzorků vody z estuárií nebo z mořského prostředí. V příloze A je popsána druhá metoda (rychlá zkouška) pro stanovení subletálních účinků po velmi krátké době expozice (1 h)
