Tato norma specifikuje metodu stanovení chronické toxicity pro vířníka Brachionus calyciflorus, založenou na inhibici růstu populace během 48 h. Tato metoda je použitelná pro: a) chemické látky, které jsou rozpustné nebo které mohou být udržovány ve stabilních suspenzích nebo disperzích za podmínek zkoušky; b) průmyslové nebo městské odpadní vody, po dekantaci, filtraci nebo odstředění, pokud je to vhodné; c) sladké vody; d) vodné výluhy. Tato norma není použitelná pro zkoušení nestálých chemikálií (hydrolyzujících, absorbujících apod.) ve vodě, pokud není měřena expoziční koncentrace, ani pro zkoušení vzorků vody z estuárií nebo z mořského prostředí
