Tento dokument definuje terminologii, klasifikaci a metody, které jsou využívány při třídění jednotlivých volných ve šperku nezasazených broušených diamantů větších než 0,25 karátů (ct). Tento dokument je určen výhradně pro přírodní, ve šperku nezasazené broušené diamanty. Nesmí být využíván pro třídění a klasifikaci barevných (fancy) diamantů, syntetických diamantů a přírodních diamantů s upravenou čistotou nebo barvou (jiné než povolené v článku 7.4). Rovněž nesmí být využíván pro diamanty, které jsou zasazeny ve šperku
