Tato mezinárodní norma stanovuje požadavky a uvádí doporučení týkající se navrhování, instalace, zkoušení, údržby a bezpečnosti stabilních hasicích zařízení na oxid uhličitý v budovách, výrobních objektech nebo jiných stavbách. Norma neplatí pro hasicí zařízení na lodích, v letadlech, automobilech ani pro pojízdná hasicí zařízení nebo pro podzemní hasicí zařízení v odvětví hornictví; neplatí ani pro inertizační zařízení oxidem uhličitým. Návrh zařízení v případech, kdy neuzavíratelný otvor (otvory) překračuje stanovenou plochu a kdy otvor (otvory) mohou být vystaveny účinkům větru, není specifikován, ačkoli je uveden obecný návod na postup, který se v takových případech použije
