Norma obsahuje ISO 8264:1989. Stanoví metodu pro měření puchnutí černých uhlí za použití dilatometru. Normalizována je podstata zkoušky, která stanoví: "Zkušební tělísko ve tvaru tužky připravené ze vzorku uhlí se zahřívá konstantní rychlostí v ocelové dilatometrické trubici, umístěné v pícce. Monitorovací systém teploty se předběžně kalibruje za použití dvou referenčních kovů známých bodů tání. Změny polohy pístu, spočívajícího na zkušebním tělísku se průběžně pozorují a provedený záznam charakterizuje vlastnosti puchnutí uhlí." ČSN ISO 8264 (44 1372) byla vydána v lednu 1996
