Tato část ISO 8636 specifikuje, s odkazem na ISO 230-1 a ISO 230-2, zkoušky geometrické přesnosti, zkoušky obráběním a zkoušky přesnosti a opakovatelnosti nastavení polohy v číslicově řízených osách portálových frézek s pevným portálem normální přesnosti pro všeobecné účely. Tato část ISO 8636 také specifikuje aplikovatelné tolerance odpovídající shora zmíněným zkouškám. Tato část ISO 8636 je aplikovatelná na stroje s pohyblivými stoly a pevnými dvěma stojany. Nezahrnuje jednostojanové (otevřené) stroje a stroje s pevným stolem a pohyblivými stojany. Tato část ISO 8636 se zabývá pouze ověřením přesnosti strojů, nevztahuje se na zkoušky činnosti stroje (vibrace, nadměrný hluk, trhavé pohyby částí, atd.) ani na vlastnosti stroje (jako rychlosti, posuvy atd.), které by obecně měly být zkoušeny před zkouškami přesnosti. Tato část ISO 8636 uvádí terminologii použitou pro hlavní součásti stroje a označení os s ohledem na ISO 841.
