Norma obsahuje ISO/IEC 11458:1993. Rozsáhlé využívání vysoce výkonných multiprocesorových systémů založených na sběrnicích na propojovacích deskách, jako je sběrnice IEC 821 (VMEbus), vedlo k samozřejmému požadavku vytvořit systémy o více rámech (dílčích rámech, šasi, atd.). Mezirámová kabelová sběrnice VICbus je konstruována k dosažení takových sestav normovaným způsobem. VICbus je kabelová sběrnice určená k používání pro vzájemné spojování více zařízení, zejména systémů sběrnic na propojovacích deskách, účinně a s možností transparentního provozu řízeného programem dovolit konstrukci rozsáhlých multiprocesorových systémů o více rámech. ČSN ISO/IEC 11458 (36 9365) byla vydána v listopadu 1996
