Norma obsahuje ISO/IEC 13421:1993. Specifikuje fyzikální a magnetické vlastnosti zásobníku 12,7 mm široké, 48-stopé magnetické pásky tak, aby byla umožněna výměna takovýchto zásobníků. Specifikuje také jakost zaznamenávaných signálů a formát - nazývaný Digital Linear Tape 1 (Číslicová lineární páska 1) (DLT 1) - a způsob záznamu. Společně s normou pro návěštní značení, např. ISO 1001, umožňuje plnohodnotnou výměnu z dat prostřednictvím takovýchto zásobníků magnetické pásky. ČSN ISO/IEC 13421(36 9355) byla vydána v říjnu 1996
