Norma obsahuje ISO/IEC 8878:1992, druhé vydání, Technickou opravu 2.1993. Mód služby sítě OSI v režimu se spojením (CONS) je definován pojmy souboru základních funkcí a úkonů a přidružených parametrů. Aby protokol podporoval tuto službu, musí mít vztah mezi abstraktními prvky a parametry CONS a skutečnými prvky protokolu.
