Dieses Dokument gilt für Rohre und Formstücke aus duktilem Gusseisen für den Transport ż von Wasser für den menschlichen Gebrauch; ż von Wasser, wenn eine Trinkwassereignung gefordert ist (z. B. für Anwendungsgebiete wie Brandbekämpfung, Schneeherstellung und Bewässerung oder für Wasserkraftanlagen); ż von verschiedenen Arten von Wasser, wenn dieses in weiterer Folge für den menschlichen Gebrauch vorgesehen ist (z. B. Rohwasser, behandeltes Wasser, aufbereitetes Wasser). Dieses Dokument ist gemeinsam mit ÖNORM EN 545 anzuwenden. Es enthält ergänzende Bestimmungen hinsichtlich der Trinkwassertauglichkeit, der Verbindungen und des Oberflächenschutzes, die in ÖNORM EN 545 nicht erfasst sind, sowie vom Recyclatgehalt (siehe Anhang B). Ebenso sind empfohlene Konformitätskriterien im informativen Anhang A angegeben. Rohrsättel für Rohranschlüsse sind nicht Gegenstand dieses Dokuments.
