IEC 60332-3-21:2018 is now available as IEC 60332-3-21:2018 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition. IEC 60332-3-21:2018 covers category A F/R for methods of test for the assessment of vertical flame spread of vertically-mounted bunched wires or cables, under defined conditions. This document relates only to power cables of conductor cross-sectional area greater than 35 mm2 installed on the test ladder in a spaced configuration on the front and rear to achieve a nominal total volume of non-metallic material of 7 l/m of test sample. The flame application time is 40 min. This method of mounting is intended for special cable designs used in particular installations when required in the cable specification. Category A F/R is not intended for general use. The test is intended for type approval testing. The requirements for the selection of cables for testing are given in Annex A. The flame spread is measured as the extent of damage of the cable sample. This procedure can be used to demonstrate the cable’s ability to limit flame spread. A recommended performance requirement is given in Annex B.^This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2000. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) adjustments have been made to the title, and elsewhere, to emphasise the standard is applicable to optical fibre cables as well as metallic conductor types; b) details of the way in which cables are mounted on the ladder have been better defined in order to improve repeatability and reproducibility. It has the status of a group safety publication in accordance with IEC Guide 104. L’IEC 60332-3-21:2018 couvre la categorie A F/R pour les methodes dessai pour levaluation de la propagation verticale de la flamme des fils ou cables, disposes en nappes en position verticale, dans des conditions definies. Le present document concerne uniquement les cables denergie ayant au moins un conducteur de section superieure a 35 mm2 installes sur lechelle dessai dans une configuration espacee sur la face avant et la face arriere afin d’obtenir un volume nominal total de materiau non metallique de 7 l/m dechantillon dessai. La duree dapplication de la flamme est de 40 min. Cette methode de montage est prevue pour les constructions de cables speciales utilisees dans des installations particulieres lorsque cela est requis dans la specification de cable. La categorie A F/R nest pas prevue pour une utilisation generale. Lessai est prevu pour des essais dacceptation de type. Les exigences pour la selection des cables pour lacceptation de type sont donnees a lAnnexe A. La propagation de la flamme est mesuree comme etant letendue de la partie endommagee de lechantillon de cable. Cette procedure peut etre utilisee pour demontrer l’aptitude du cable a limiter la propagation de la flamme. L’Annexe B donne une recommandation pour lexigence de performance. Cette deuxieme edition annule et remplace la premiere edition parue en 2000. Cette edition constitue une revision technique. Cette edition inclut les modifications techniques majeures suivantes par rapport a ledition precedente: a) des ajustements ont ete apportes au titre, et ailleurs, afin de souligner que la Norme s’applique aux cables a fibre optique, ainsi qu’aux types de conducteurs metalliques; b) les details sur la maniere dont les cables sont montes sur lechelle ont ete mieux definis afin dameliorer la repetabilite et la reproductibilite. Elle a le statut d’une publication groupee de securite conformement au Guide IEC 104.
