IEC 60794-4-10:2014 which is a family specification, covers cable construction, test methods and optical, mechanical, environmental and electrical performance requirements for OPGW (optical ground wire) which is used for the protection of electrical power lines against atmospheric discharges or short-circuits and, at the same time, as a high bandwidth transport media for communications-and-control optical signals. The corresponding environmental declaration may be built according to IEC TR 62839-1. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2006 and constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - galloping test (9.7) has been added to the type tests list; - update of definitions clause; - maximum installation tension (MIT) defined and used in the sheave test description; - definition of characterization of OPGWs mechanical behaviour in order to provide information useful for electrical power transmission lines designers; - improved definition of lightning test parameters and conditions to improve reproducibility among different laboratories. La declaration environnementale correspondante peut etre etablie conformement a lIEC TR 62839-1. Un cable de garde a fibres optiques peut remplacer un cable de protection et de mise a la terre traditionnel contenant des fibres optiques destinees au controle et/ou aux communications. Habituellement, les fibres sont integrees de maniere lache dans des tubes de protection. Pour satisfaire aux exigences mecaniques et electriques, une armure constituee dune ou plusieurs couches avec de laluminium, un alliage daluminium, de lacier plaque aluminium, de lacier galvanise ou un melange de ceux-ci est toronnee de maniere helicoidale. Si la construction contient un tube daluminium ou un jonc rainure en aluminium, cette section est consideree comme une partie conductrice. Cette deuxieme edition annule et remplace la premiere edition parue en 2006 dont elle constitue une revision technique. La presente edition inclut les modifications techniques majeures suivantes par rapport a ledition precedente: a) lessai de galop (9.7) a ete ajoute a la liste des essais de type; b) larticle sur les definitions a ete mis a jour; la tension dinstallation maximale (MIT) definie et utilisee dans la description de lessai de passage sur poulies; c) definition de la caracterisation du comportement mecanique des cables de garde a fibres optiques pour fournir des informations utiles aux concepteurs de lignes de transmission de puissance electrique; d) amelioration de la definition des parametres et des conditions des essais de choc de foudre pour ameliorer la reproductibilite entre differents laboratoires.
