Annotation of standard text IRS 50523-1ed. :

This IRS specifies the technical requirements applicable to automatic couplers for railway vehicles in accordance with UIC Leaflet 522, to:

• - ensure compatibility between automatic couplers, as well as compatibility with the SA-3 coupler and mixed-coupling arrangements;
• - meet operational and shunting requirements;
• - ensure interchangeability

Automatic couplers of RZhD vehicles need only comply with the conditions concerning compatibility of automatic couplers with each other, with the SA3 coupler and mixed couplers and with train operation and shunting requirements.

The Organisations and the Railways may adopt additional conditions concerning compatibility, provided they do not contravene the stipulations of this leaflet.

Amendments or additions to this leaflet shall be covered by an agreement between the UIC and the OSJD.

UIC Leaflet 523 is published by the OSJD under no. 522/4.

The migration of UIC Leaflet 523 to IRS 50523 did not introduce any changes to the technical requirements; therefore, no agreement between UIC and OSJD is required.
