Diese Europäische Norm legt Prüfverfahren fest und enthält anerkannte Sicherheitsanforderungen für entnehmbare Lithium-Ionen-Batterie(packs und)systeme der Spannungsklasse A und Spannungsklasse B zur Verwendung als Traktionsbatterien von oder für elektrisch angetriebene(n) Straßenfahrzeuge(n). Diese Europäische Norm bezieht sich auf die Prüfung der Leistungssicherheit von Batteriepacks und -systemen bei deren bestimmungsgemäßer Verwendung in einem Fahrzeug. Diese Europäische Norm ist nicht zur Anwendung für die Bewertung der Sicherheit der Lagerung eines Batteriepacks/-systems, Fahrzeugherstellung, Reparatur und Wartungsarbeiten vorgesehen. Leichte Elektrofahrzeuge (en: Light EV) schließen alle elektrisch angetriebenen Fahrzeuge der Kategorie L1 bis Kategorie L7 entsprechend der Definition nach ECE-TRANS-WP29-78r6e ein sowie alle elektrisch angetriebenen oder unterstützen Fahrräder einschließlich Plug-in-Hybridelektrofahrzeuge (PHEV), welche ihre Energie vollständig oder teilweise aus fahrzeugeigenen wiederaufladbaren Energiespeichersystemen (RESS, en: rechargeable energy storage systems) beziehen.
