Diese haben die folgenden allgemeinen Eigenschaften: - sie sind passiv, d. h. sie enthalten keine optoelektronischen oder sonstigen Wandlerelemente; sie können jedoch eine Temperaturregelung nur zum Zwecke der Kennwertstabilisierung des Bauteils benutzen; optische Schaltfunktionen sind ausgeschlossen; - sie besitzen drei oder mehr Anschlüsse für den Eintritt oder Austritt der optischen Leistung oder beide, und verteilen die optische Leistung in vorbestimmter Weise wellenlängenabhängig auf diese Anschlüsse; - die Anschlüsse sind Lichtwellenleiter oder Lichtwellenleiter-Steckverbinder.
