Dieser Teil von IEC 62196 gilt für EV-Stecker, EV-Steckdosen, Fahrzeugkupplungen und Fahrzeugstecker mit Stiften und Buchsen mit genormten Anordnungen, hier als Steckvorrichtungen bezeichnet. Diese Steckvorrichtungen haben eine Bemessungsnennspannung von höchstens 480 V Wechselspannung, 50 Hz bis 60 Hz, und einen Bemessungsstrom von höchstens 63 A Drehstrom oder 70 A Einphasenstrom zur Verwendung beim konduktiven Laden von Elektrofahrzeugen. Dieses Dokument behandelt die Steckvorrichtungen von Basisschnittstellen für Versorgungseinrichtungen für Elektrofahrzeuge, wie in IEC 62196-1:2022 festgelegt. Diese Steckvorrichtungen sind für den Einsatz in Stromkreisen bestimmt, die in IEC 61851-1:2017 festgelegt sind, welche mit unterschiedlichen Spannungen und Frequenzen betrieben werden und welche Kleinspannung (ELV) und Kommunikationssignale einbeziehen können. Die Verwendung dieser Steckvorrichtungen für eine bidirektionale Energieübertragung ist in Beratung.
