Dieser Teil der Reihe IEC 62282 legt die sicherheitsbezogenen Anforderungen an die Konstruktion, den Betrieb unter normalen und anomalen Bedingungen und die Prüfung von Brennstoffzellenmodulen fest. Er gilt für Brennstoffzellenmodule mit folgender Elektrolyt-Chemie: - alkalisch; - Polymerelektrolyt (einschließlich Direkt-Methanol-Brennstoffzellen); - Phosphorsäure; - Schmelzkarbonat; - Festoxid; - wässrige Salzlösungen. Brennstoffzellenmodule können mit oder ohne Gehäuse ausgeführt sein, wobei sie entweder auf signifikant erhöhtem Druckniveau oder nahe dem Umgebungsdruck betrieben werden können. Dieses Dokument behandelt Zustände, die zu Gefährdungen für Personen und Schäden außerhalb der Brennstoffzellenmodule führen können. Der Schutz gegen Schäden innerhalb der Brennstoffzellenmodule ist nicht Gegenstand dieses Dokuments, solange diese nicht zu Gefährdungen außerhalb des Moduls führen.
