Dieser Teil von IEC 62933 definiert die Anforderungen an die Bewertung und Dokumentation der negativen Umweltauswirkungen eines Ausfalls einer Zelle, Flusszelle, Batterie oder Flussbatterie im Akkumulationsteilsystem eines Batterie-Energiespeichersystems (BESS). Die Batterien, die in BESS eingesetzt werden und innerhalb dieses Anwendungsbereichs liegen, werden nach ihrem Elektrolyt klassifiziert. Unterschieden wird zwischen wasserhaltigen, nichtwasserhaltigen und Festelektrolyten. Die direkten Auswirkungen, die ein Ausfall anderer BESS-Komponenten auf die Umwelt hat, liegen nicht im Anwendungsbereich dieses Dokuments.
