Dieses System ist dazu bestimmt, den in Betrieb befindlichen Reaktor automatisch abzuschalten, bevor er in größerem Maß von Bodenerschütterungen durch starke Erdstöße beschädigt wird. Dieses Dokument ist sowohl für Neubauten als auch auf die Verbesserung von in Betrieb befindlichen Anlagen anwendbar. Es darf auch für die Auslegung anderer Arten kerntechnischer Anlagen verwendet werden, deren Normalbetrieb im Fall starker seismischer Bewegungen unterbrochen werden muss.
