Diese ÖNORM enthält die Einteilung der Polstermöbel und Funktions-Polstermöbel in Einzelmöbel und Anbaumöbel, die gebräuchlichsten Benennungen und Definitionen von Begriffen sowie Hinweise zu den Abmessungen. Damit wird die einheitliche Beschreibung von Polstermöbeln ermöglicht. Die alphabetische Aufstellung der Benennungen erhebt keinen Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit. Bei Polstermöbel und Funktions-Polstermöbel unterscheidet man zwischen Einzelmöbel und Anbaumöbel (zB Kombinationsmöbel, Wohnlandschaften, Systemmöbel). Diese können entweder einsitzig oder mehrsitzig ausgeführt sein.
