Sie dient dem Aufbau und der Verwendung der nationalen Geodateninfrastruktur (NGDI) durch die Vereinheitlichung und Harmonisierung der Dokumentation von geographischen Ressourcen in Österreich. Die vorliegende ÖNORM ist gemeinsam mit der ÖNORM EN ISO 19115:2005 und der ÖNORM EN ISO 19115 1:2014 anzuwenden.
