Um eine möglichst wirtschaftliche Ausnutzung der Palettenfläche mit Schachteln (Flächennutzungsgrad) zu erreichen, ist es sinnvoll, deren Abmessungen entsprechend dem Verpackungsmodul 400 mm x 600 mm zu gestalten. Es werden die Außenmaße von Schachteln unter Zugrundlegung der Nennmaße (abgeleitet vom Verpackungsmodul) festgelegt, wobei die Ausbauchung berücksichtigt ist. Die Innenmaße, die für das Packgut zur Verfügung stehen, sind in Tabellen angegeben, bzw. ist die rechnerische Ermittlung der Innenmaße in Abhängigkeit von der Schachtelbauart festgehalten. Zusätzlich sind Schlichtpläne für die Palettengrößen 800 mm x 600 mm, 1200 mm x 800 mm und 1200 mm x 1000 mm dargestellt.
