Diese ÖNORM enthält Abmessungen für alle Treppen, Geländer und Brüstungen in Gebäuden sowie im allgemein zugänglichen Bereich bei Außenanlagen (zB Müllsammelplatz, Fahrradabstellraum, Garagen, Kinderspielplatz u. Ä.). Ausgenommen von dieser ÖNORM sind Gebäudetreppen mit einer Steigung von mehr als 45° (zB Sambatreppen, Spartreppen), da diese für einen alltäglichen Gebrauch wegen der erhöhten Absturzgefahr nicht geeignet sind, sowie Leitern, Gerüste, temporäre Absturzsicherungen u. Ä.
