Die Norm enthält Abmessungen für und Güteanforderungen an Verbindungsstücke, die aus metallischen Werkstoffen bestehen, ungedämmt ausgeführt und keinem Überdruck ausgesetzt sind, ausgenommen während höchstens 30 Sekunden beim Anfahren. Unter Verbindungsstück ist jener Teil der Feuerungsanlage zu verstehen, welcher die Verbrennungsgase von der Feuerstätte in den Fang leitet. Verbindungsstücke, welche frei geführt sind und aus Einzelteilen (Rohrstücke, Formstücke etc.) bestehen können, die lösbar sind, werden als Rauch- bzw. Abgasrohre bezeichnet. Die Norm sieht die Kennzeichnung "ÖNORM B 8223" vor.
