Biomedizinische Signaldaten (inkl. EEG, EKG) stellen neben Labordaten und Bilddaten eine dritte wichtige Gruppe von medizinischen Meßdaten dar. Für das Abspeichern solcher biomedizinischer Signaldaten gibt es jedoch kein allgemein akzeptiertes Format. Ziel dieses Normvorhabens ist es ein allgemeines Datenformat für biomedizinische Signaldaten zu spezifizieren, welches die besten Merkmale von vorhandenen Formatspezifikationen (incl. SCP-ECG, MFER, EDF, HL7aECG/FDA-XML, 11073-10101, Dicom/Waveform, und verschiedenen herstellerspezifischen Formaten) in einem allgemein verwendbaren Datenformat vereinigt.
