Diese Internationale Norm legt die Anforderungen für die sichere Handhabung, den Gebrauch und die Lagerung von Gasflaschen ) für verdichtete, verflüssigte oder unter Druck gelöste Gase fest. Diese Internationale Norm gilt nur für einzelne Flaschen mit einer Größe von 0,5 l bis 150 l Fassungsraum. Für bestimmte Anwendungen wie Schweißen, Tauchen, Inertisieren, u. dgl. gelten zusätzliche Anforderungen, die nicht von dieser Internationalen Norm abgedeckt werden. Wartung, Reparatur, Kennzeichnung, Etikettierung, Kontrolle und wiederkehrende Prüfung von Gasflaschen, die normalerweise in der Verantwortlichkeit des Eigentümers der Gasflasche liegen, sind in dieser Internationalen Norm ebenfalls nicht enthalten.
