Diese ÖNORM beschreibt eine Methode für die Bestimmung von Kalium und Natrium mittels Flammen-Emissions-Spektrometrie (FES). Sie ist für Trinkwasser und wenig verunreinigtes Oberflächenwasser geeignet. Die Methode ist sowohl bei Kalium als auch bei Natrium im Konzentrationsbereich bis 10 mg/l anwendbar. Der Anwendungsbereich kann durch Verkleinerung der Analysenprobe nach oben erweitert werden. Die Bestimmungsgrenze liegt für beide Elemente bei 0,1 mg/l. ÖNORM M 6603-1 enthält die in ISO 9964-1 und 2 beschriebenen Methoden zur Bestimmung von Kalium und Natrium mittels Atomabsorptions-Spektrometrie.
