Das Verfahren eignet sich zur Bestimmung von Aluminium in Trinkwasser und gering belastetem Wasser in einer Massenkonzentration von 0,01 mg/l bis 0,5 mg/l. Ist ein Aufschluss erforderlich, so verringert sich der Anwendungsbereich auf 0,05 mg/l bis 0,5 mg/l. Bei höheren Gehalten muss die Wasserprobe entsprechend verdünnt werden. Aluminiumsilikate und Tonmineralien werden nach diesem Verfahren nicht erfasst.
