Diese ÖNORM ist auf Zylinderräder mit evolventenförmigem Zahnprofil nach den ÖNORMEN 6720-1 bis -3 anzuwenden. Das radiale oder diametrale Maß über Meßkugeln oder Meßrollen (Meßdrähte, Prüfstifte) ist eines der Prüfmaße der Zahndicke. Nach gleichen Grundsätzen kann die Zahndicke auch an Zylinderschnecken nach ÖNORM M 6750 sowie an Zahnwellen und Zahnnaben mit Evolventenverzahnung nach DIN 5480 Teil 1 bestimmt werden.
