Diese ÖNORM enthält Planungsgrundlagen und Richtlinien für die temporäre Lagerung von radioaktiven Abfällen. Sie ist bei der Planung von Einrichtungen zur temporären Lagerung und beim Umgang mit radioaktiven Abfällen, die als bewilligungs- oder meldepflichtige radioaktive Stoffe unter den entsprechenden Anwendungsbereich der Strahlenschutzbestimmungen fallen, anzuwenden. Die Planungsgrundlagen und Richtlinien betreffend Abklinganlagen für flüssigen radioaktiven Abfall werden in ÖNORM S 2601-2 behandelt. Diese ÖNORM gilt nicht für die Lagerung von radioaktiven Abfällen aus Wiederaufbereitungsanlagen für nukleare Brennstoffe.
